About VantaSpec
VantaSpec is a free price comparison site for PC hardware in the UK. It puts the prices from UK retailers, the full specifications and the price history for each part on one page, so you can see what something really costs today and whether that is a good price, without opening a tab for every shop.
8,181 products across 19 categories, from processors and graphics cards to monitors, peripherals and complete PCs.
Every price says when we read it
Prices are not live, and we do not pretend they are. Each one carries the time it was last checked, and a price read more than 7 days ago is flagged on the product page.
No number we cannot source
A price links to the retailer's own product page. A benchmark names where it came from. A figure we work out ourselves, like a performance estimate, is labelled as an estimate.
Cheapest first, not highest commission
Prices are listed cheapest first. Some links earn us a commission; that never changes the order, and a shop that pays us nothing is listed the same as one that does.
Wrong data comes off
When two sources disagree about a product, we take it down until it is fixed rather than guess which one is right. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will check it.
Where the prices come from
We compare AWD-IT, Scan, Overclockers UK, CCL Computers, Currys, Box, Novatech, Corsair, Ebuyer, Chillblast, Stormforce Gaming, Razer, MSI, SteelSeries, HyperX and Endgame Gear. Some retailers send us a product feed through an affiliate network, which we read every day. The rest we check ourselves, reading the price from the retailer's own product page. The most popular parts are re-checked at every shop each night, and the full lists of most shops (Overclockers, CCL, Box, Ebuyer, AWD-IT, Chillblast and Stormforce) are swept every night. Scan limits how many pages we can read, so its older prices are worked through a bit at a time, and Currys and Novatech are read on alternate nights. Every price shows when we read it. A price read more than 7 days ago is marked as possibly out of date, and past 14 days it is left out of build totals, deals and alerts.Refurbished and used stock is kept apart from new, so a second-hand price never shows up as a deal on a new part.
Each time a price moves we record it, which is what the price history on every product page is built from. The "lowest" figures there only count a price that held for at least six hours, so a momentary glitch at a retailer is never quoted as a deal.
What you can do here
- Compare prices for a part across UK retailers, with its price history, and see the biggest price gaps between shops.
- Plan a PC for a budget with the build planner, or build one part by part in the PC builder. Both check that the parts fit: socket, memory type, size and power.
- See measured performance for processors and graphics cards from Blender Open Data, real benchmark runs published into the public domain, shown beside the models nearest each one.
How we make money
Some of our links to retailers are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, the retailer pays us a small commission. It costs you nothing and does not change the price you pay. The site may also carry adverts. It is free to use, and an account, which is also free, adds saved builds, favourites and price alerts. The retailers page lists which shops we have an affiliate arrangement with.
Who writes VantaSpec
Articles credited to the VantaSpec team are our guides and our price news: the weekly UK price movers and the monthly price index report. The price news is drafted by software from our own checked price readings, and a person checks every draft before it is published. Our editorial policy says how we source prices, check claims and correct mistakes.
Built by FloatWeb
VantaSpec is designed and developed by FloatWeb, a UK-based web development studio, by people who build their own PCs and wanted one honest place to price the parts.
