Cheaper elsewhere: our free browser extension for UK PC parts
A free Firefox extension that tells you when another UK shop has the PC part you are looking at for less. Here is what it does, what it reads, and what we should build next.
You find the graphics card you want. It is £649.99. Is that the best price in the UK today? Usually you find out by opening a tab for every shop.
Our free browser extension does that check for you. It is live on Firefox now: Add to Firefox.
What it does
Open a product page at one of the big UK PC parts shops. If VantaSpec lists that exact part and another UK shop has it in stock for less, a small panel appears on the page with the lower prices and a link to compare every price on VantaSpec.
If nothing is cheaper, nothing appears. No pop-ups, no badges, no noise.
What it reads, and what it does not
- It sends nothing until you press Turn on on the welcome page that opens after you install it.
- On a product page it sends us the page address and the price the page shows, so we can look for cheaper offers. That is all.
- It does not read other pages, forms or your basket. There is no account and nothing is used for advertising.
- It does not add, change or hide any links on the shops you visit.

Where the prices come from
The lower prices come from VantaSpec's own price checks across UK shops. Popular parts are rechecked through the day and the rest at least weekly, so always confirm the price on the shop before you buy. Prices shown are before delivery.
Chrome
The Chrome version is with Google for review. We will add it to the extension page as soon as it is listed.
What should it do next?
This is version one, and we would rather build what you want than guess. Some ideas we have had:
- Show the lowest price this part has been, so you can tell a deal from a normal day.
- A one-click price alert from the panel.
- Show second-hand and refurbished prices too, clearly marked.
- Count delivery, so the cheapest shop really is the cheapest.
